Did you know that individuals who volunteer are happier than those who do not? Volunteering can have positive effects such as lowering stress, boosting self-confidence, decreasing risk of depression, reducing stress and even helping you live longer.
There are many ways to volunteer at Lake Erie Food Rescue (LEFR): Giving your time, showcasing your talent or giving a donation.
Time is irreplaceable: If you have an extra hour in your week, consider signing up to be a Food Rescue Hero.
Don’t have enough time to be a regular Food Rescue Hero, but have a talent you’re willing to share? Please consider volunteering at one of our events. Maybe you have a band and can donate a few hours of music? Are you a great party planner? Maybe you can help us organize events? Everyone has a talent: What is yours?
Are you interested in making a monetary donation? As a new non-profit agency we guarantee every dollar will be used to ensure we are able to provide food to our neighbors. We believe everyone has the right to healthy food and we can’t thank you enough for your contribution!
Food Rescue Heroes (volunteers) are the heart and soul of LEFR. You can sign up to be a Food Rescue Hero by emailing your name and contact info to Support@lakeeriefoodrescue.org or by texting or calling 814-983-8863. Food Rescue Heroes will be contacted to pick up food from one of our donors and transport the items to a local non-profit agency which will be responsible for distributing the food to those in need. In the near future, Food Rescue Heroes will be operating through the use of an App. Think of it like an “Uber” for rescuing food that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Food Rescue Heroes will be contacted via the app with an address when there is food to be picked up and delivered to an agency. The app will provide immediate statistics for the food donors, as well as to the partners who will be distributing the food. Some food donors will have regularly scheduled days for pickups, which will make it easy to make a food rescue part of your regular routine. We will have unscheduled pickups as well for those that are flexible with being contacted at the last moment. Either way, the process is simple and easy and you are helping to serve your neighbors. The app will keep track of how many Food Rescues each volunteer has completed, how many meals have been provided to families and the environmental savings. The app is free and is really amazing! We are really looking forward to implementing the App to our mission.
Are you a business that has a surplus of food that you don't want to see go to the landfill? Donate it to Lake Erie Food Rescue!
